December gathering

The 2nd get-together of the Ragamuffin Cooking Club has been announced!

Theme: Mediterranean
Date & Time: Saturday, December 10th, 6:00pm
Place: Chad & Karen's

We need sign-ups for the following:

  1. Appetizer
  2. Drinks
  3. Main Dish
  4. Side Dish #1
  5. Side Dish #2 (Maybe. Could be a salad or soup or bread, depending on the appetizer and first side dish. We may not need a second one.)
  6. Dessert

Also, we'll try to post some links for Meditteranean-style cooking ideas, recipes, ingredients, etc. during the next month.

Hey!

Just wanted to tell everybody that we had a great time at our first get-together on Saturday! I hope everyone else had a good time, too. The food was simply fantastic, and it was great to meet some new people. We hope to post some pictures soon of the great food, thanks to our resident photographer, Kristi. A list of what great appetizers we enjoyed:
  • Kristi brought hummus and pita bread
  • Heidi brought artichoke dip
  • Michael & Toni brought spicy nacho dip and chips
  • Bryan brought chicken quesadillas and salsa
  • Rejane brought bruschetta
  • Phil & Rose brought spicy shrimp & baked brie w/ apricot preserves and almonds
  • Chad & Karen brought sausage phyllo triangles & pepper, garlic and pecorino gougeres (don't ask me what the last word means!!)

The food was fantastic, and it was surprising to hear what everyone's favorite types of food were - almost all of them were different! We also tossed around a lot of good ideas for future get-togethers. Fun stuff.

First meeting!

I'm happy to announce the first meeting of the Ragamuffin Cooking Club! So here's the scoop:

First meeting: Saturday, November 12th @ 6:00pm

Location: Chad & Karen's house

Theme: Appetizers! We're keeping it pretty wide open the first time around! Everyone will bring a dish this time, so we won't eat a LOT of each appetizer. If two of you would like to make a dish together, that's great too. But there will be about 10-12 of us, so plan accordingly. (something in a 9"x13" baking dish, for example, would be sufficient.)

What to bring: Yourself, your ready-to-eat appetizer (we can reheat some things if needed), and about a dozen copies of the recipe you used to share with the group. Hopefully we can begin to make a collection of recipes based on the ones the group makes!

The format: It will be a laid-back, getting-to-know you sort of get-together this first time. We will have extra table space for setting up all the food, as well as plates, napkins and utensils this time around. We'll have nametags too, just so everyone can meet each other easily. We'll take a little time for each of us to share a bit about our dish - since we want to learn, we'll be sharing tips on "what worked" and "what didn't" and anything else new we learn about cooking along the way!
