October gathering

The 24th gathering of the Ragamuffin Cooking Club is hereby announced! Have we actually made it to the two year mark? How exciting!!

Welcome to a few new members who we hope to see this month - Katie & Jeremy and Amanda! Perhaps more are on the way. :)

Theme: Carribean (the most classic fusion cuisine I can think of)
Date & Time: Saturday, October 20 at 6:30pm
Place: Chad & Karen's

We need signups for the following:
  • Appetizer / Soup / Salad -
  • Main Dish 1 -
  • Main Dish 2 (if all other dishes are taken) -
  • Side Dish 1 -
  • Side Dish 2 -
  • Wine / cocktail -
  • Non-alc. drinks -
  • Dessert -

For a bit of background, Carribean food is a fusion of the many ethnic influences to the island countries. Cuban food or Jamacian food is a great place to start. However, there are also african and asian elements that find their way into the cuisine.

Some delicious-looking Carribean recipes were one of the vegetarian features in this month's Cooking Light. You can find those recipes and more at MyRecipes (I've entered the "carribean" search into the link so only those recipes will appear).

Goin' to the Farmers' Market

This past weekend's Farmers' Market meal was deeelish. Unfortunately, due to some scheduling conflicts, illness, transitioning new/old members in and out and the like, we only had 8 of us (well.... 11 if you count the under-18 crowd including our newest member Ava!). Even so, we had quite a delicious meal.

We enjoyed:
  • Canteloupe w/ proscuitto & vinagrette for appetizers from Phil & Rose
  • Autumn stew with cheddar-biscuit topping from Phil & Rose (Phil, the recipe is in high demand!)
  • Summer skillet-cooked vegetables from Chad & Karen
  • Honey-apple cake with caramel glaze from Jill & Jonathan
  • Sodas from the new mommy & daddy (Heather & Dave)

I felt it was appropriate to have both a "summer" dish and an "autumn" dish as we sit on the cusp of both seasons. Sadly, I completely forgot to take ANY pictures of the food for the first time ever! So, that just means we'll have to recreate the dishes sometime and take pictures so everyone can see.

We missed those of you unable to join us and hope to see you next month, along with some news faces! Next up... carribean!
